In the past few blog posts, we’ve been talking about the stellar benefits of collagen supplementation. Specifically, vegetarian collagen like our innovative new formula, Collagen+, can have a lifelong, game-changing impact on your beauty and wellness. But how precisely do you incorporate it into your daily routine? Well, with a delicious vanilla flavour, Collagen+ makes for a perfect complement in a variety of recipes. Keep reading for four of our favourite simple, quick and easy collagen recipes to keep on your short list.
Breakfast Boost Juice
Put your favourite green juice on the backburner, because we’ve got a new star to start your day. This Breakfast Boost Juice is one of our favourite collagen recipes. It does feature some greens, but it also includes an array of other ingredients to support your mind and body after wake-up. Carrots and spinach bring vitamin A to the mix, and this actually supports collagen absorption. Lemon has a host of benefits that make it a morning must. Last but certainly not least, getting your collagen in first thing will help ensure you don’t forget!
Ingredients
- 2 scoops of Collagen+
- 1 apple
- 1 orange
- 3 carrots
- 1 cucumber
- 2 tsp of ginger
- 1 lemon’s juice
- 1 handful of spinach
Instructions
Juice it up! 😉 If you don’t have a juicer, consider these recommendations.
Sweet and Savoury Smoothie Bowl
Who doesn’t love a good smoothie bowl? Don’t get us wrong, shakes and juices are fantastic because they’re a quick, effective way to get those nutrients in. But smoothie bowls bring back the act of sitting down with something you can slowly eat and enjoy. This Hush & Hush favourite certainly packs a punch, with Collagen+ and antioxidant-heavy ingredients.
Ingredients
- 1 scoop of Collagen+
- 1 packet of frozen acai (we love how many flavour options Sambazon offers, but any brand will do!)
- ½ cup of water or the milk of your choice
- ½ cup of blueberries
- 1 handful of granola
Instructions
Thaw the acai packet and stir it in a bowl until the consistency is smoothie-like. Then, mix in your scoop of Collagen+ and the water or milk. Top with blueberries and granola!
Stress-Beeting Soup
Did you know that proper folate levels play a role in a healthy nervous system? Because of this, folate deficiency can result in mental fatigue, forgetfulness, confusion, insomnia—and an amplified stress response. The good news? There is a superfood solution: beets. While many foods contain folate, beets are a powerhouse for this vitamin. This fall and winter, enjoying a beet soup might be the best thing you could do for your mind and body—especially if you add in a sprinkling of Collagen+.
Ingredients
- 4 scoops of Collagen+
- 5 cups of the broth or stock of your choice
- 5 beets, peeled and sliced
- 2 large carrots, chopped into bite-size pieces
- 2 stalks of celery, chopped into bite-size pieces
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 tbsp of minced garlic
- 2 tbsp of extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 handfuls of your favourite green (chard or spinach would work well with the beets)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
Start with the pot you’ll boil your soup in. Sauté the carrots, celery, and onion in the extra-virgin olive oil on medium-high heat until they are softened. Add the beets, garlic, and greens, and sauté for a few minutes more. Then, add the broth or stock, bring to a boil, reduce the heat, and cover for half an hour (or until the beets are tender). Lastly, season with Collagen+, salt, and pepper. Yum!
Pro tip: This one is really delicious when cold, too. If you’ve got leftovers, give them a try before you reheat.
Collagen-Packed Brownies
The other three recipes we mentioned are just about as healthy as it gets … but everyone needs a decadent treat now and again. If you have a sweet tooth but care deeply about prioritizing your health, adding Collagen+ to your favourites baked goods is a way to bring some additional nutrients to that delicious moment. In particular, we find that brownies are one of the easiest collagen recipes, because they’re so adaptable. All you really have to do is add the collagen in. To that end, here is our version of Half Baked Harvest’s crinkle-top brownie recipe:
Ingredients
- 1 scoop of Collagen+
- 2 sticks of salted butter
- 2 cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 ½ cups of granulated sugar
- 1 tbsp of vanilla extract
- 4 large eggs
- ½ cup of all-purpose flour
- ½ cup of unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp of baking powder
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a 9-by-13-inch pan with parchment paper. Melt the butter and 1 ½ cups of the chocolate chips together in the microwave, then stir in the sugar and vanilla extract. Whisk the eggs until bubbly on top, before stirring them into the chocolate mix. Then, add the Collagen+, flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder. Stir to combine, then stir in the remaining ½ cup of chocolate chips. Spread in the pan and bake for 30 or so minutes, until the brownies are set. Cool and dig in!
